My Greatest Miracle

Refection of a cross over water during a golden sunset

These last few weeks I wrote about the fact that God is still working miracles—big and little ones—in and all around us. Recognizing His marvelous interventions in our lives leads to a fulfilling, exciting and God-glorifying life.

May I tell you about the greatest miracle God has ever done for me?

Saving my soul from hell!

You see I was an atheist with a very hard heart due to church hypocrisy. Let me tell you how the Hound of Heaven pursued and caught me and gave me a new life in Christ.

I was brought up in a mainline Christian home. I went to church every Sunday but got nothing out of it. As time went on, I came to believe that God didn’t even exist. I was not a happy person. I felt empty, unfulfilled, and insignificant, but didn’t understand why. I had a wonderful husband who loved me, a comfortable home, and a decent job. Yet something was missing.

In time I became involved with some strong Christians in a business. For over a year I refused to accept their declarations of God’s love and plan of redemption. However, I could not deny their inexplicable joy and peace. It made me wonder whether God might exist after all. One day while driving to work, I called out, “God, if You really do exist, I want to believe in You. Please show me.” And He did—for soon after that I heard the truth of the gospel and realized Jesus was what I been looking for all my life!

My heart was finally opened to the truth, and God opened my eyes to His truth!
“I once was blind, but now I see!”

On that day Jesus Christ gave me a new life, a new hope, and a new way of living. I am drastically different:

  • This emotional yoyo now has stability in the Rock of Ages (Is 26:3-4)
  • This fearful person now has assurance because God is with her (Is 41:10)
  • This lonely soul now has companionship forever with the most Perfect Friend (Mat 28:20, Jn 15:15)
  • This uncertain one now is certain that she is loved and cherished by her faithful Father (Jn 1:12, Jer 31:3)
  • This inadequate woman now has confident trust in the One who is able to do immeasurably more than she could ask or imagine (Eph 3:20)
  • This insignificant peon is making an impact for eternity because God is working in and through her for His good purposes (Phil 2:13)
  • This empty heart is now overflowing with His joy, peace and hope (Rom 15:13)

Each of these continual changes is the supernatural work that only God can do.

When I keep these astounding transformations in the forefront of my mind, I feel like I am living a miracle every day. That’s because I am!

In fact, the moment anyone gets saved, a humongous miracle has occurred.

When we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, we—in our sinful nature—are crucified with Christ. It is no longer the old self who lives, but Christ Himself who lives in us. We have died with Christ and now have risen with Him (Gal 2:20, Col 2:12)! We have passed from death to life.

Now that’s a miracle!

I am living in that miracle of new life each and every day—with the abundance Jesus promised in John 10:10. Even during difficult times. Even as a widow.

So my friends, has He done this miracle in you? And if so what will you do with it? Will you tell others of the miracle He’s done in you so that they too may experience this exciting miracle for themselves? What greater joy could there be than to know you will live forever with the Maker and Lover of your soul in eternal bliss? What greater joy could there be than to cooperate with the Miracle-Worker Himself in transforming another dead soul into new life?!!!

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy…. The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
(Ps 126:2-3)

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
(1 Pet 1:8-9)
