Our Lord does want to be known in a deep way. He is not hiding! He has revealed Himself through Creation, through His love letter to us-the Bible, and through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Most of us are aware that God wants us to confide in Him, but did you know that God wants to confide in us as well?

I was thrilled when I discovered this truth! I wrote about it in my book, Our Knowable God. Here’s an excerpt from the chapter, Confiding in One Another:

I’m sure many of us are aware that God wants us to confide in Him, but does He really want to confide in us? Let’s see what the Scriptures say:

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jer 33:3)

The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. (Ps 25:14)

If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you. (Pr 1:23)

For the LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence. (Pr 3:32)

So the answer is yes. Through the Holy Spirit, deep spiritual truths are given and discerned (1 Cor 2:10-14). Now, although God may reveal truths to us while we’re in sin (to restore the relationship), or even to those who are not in Christ (to bring them into a relationship with Him), He communicates on a deeper level when the following are true:

• We are one of His children.
• We call and seek after God’s wisdom.

It is not automatic. Proverbs 2:1-11 tells us that the knowledge of God must be diligently sought after, to “search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God” (vv 4-5 NKJV).

• We are walking uprightly with God, obeying Him, keeping short accounts (i.e. confess sin when convicted), and being yielded to Him.

In order for God to confide in us we must come by way of Jesus.

Jesus Christ is the only way to know God on any level (Jn 14:6)

“Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent….
“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world.“ (Jn 17: 3, 6)

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those [believers that came after the Apostles] who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” (Jn 17:20-26)

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Heb 1:1-3)

Below is a small sampling of Bible verses for going deeper with God that speak of His attributes and character

I’ve highlighted some of the Lord’s qualities in the first few passages. Now I encourage you to do the same for yourself in your Bible. Look for Him every time you read His Precious Word. You WILL find Him!

“‘You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD” (Jer 29:13-14).

I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. (Deut 32:3-4)

Yours, O LORD , is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD , is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. (1 Chr 29:11-12)

Praise the LORD , O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD , O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children- with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. 
The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. (Ps 103:1-19)

O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
You hem me in-behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!”

A man too poor to present such an offering selects wood that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not topple.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. He brings princes to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing. No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root in the ground, than he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.
“To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Is 40:9-31)

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. (Rom 11:33-36)

Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Rev 4:8-11)
