Do you have a dream? Something you want to accomplish or see happen in your life or in those you love that seems impossible? Whatever it is, I pray it’s an unselfish one in which God will be glorified. Not all of our dreams come true but sometimes… |
God does the impossible and makes our dream come true
I love to hike. I enjoy communing with God in the beauty of His creation and often get lots of ideas for writing. Hiking is a great stress releaser, good exercise, and provides many opportunities to witness to other hikers. I find it very easy to open up spiritual conversations to proclaim His name when I am surrounded with so much of His majestic handiwork.
And now I enjoy hiking even more because, for so many years, I had been greatly limited by back and joint issues. Hiking reminds me of God’s healing touch for which I am extremely grateful.
In the spring of 2018 I was thrilled to climb my favorite trail of all time—to the top of Mount LeConte in the Smokies. (A hefty 12-mile hike with 3000 ft. elevation gain.) That’s when I discovered that my dream of spending the night at the top of Mount LeConte in their lodge may not be as impossible as I thought—all I needed to do was get on the waiting list. So I did, and surprisingly 6 months later God fulfilled that life-long dream.
For my adventure, God not only gave me good weather but a beautiful sunset, sunrise and my greatest request—a clear night to see His countless stars—not the norm in the often cloud-ridden heights of Mount LeConte.
I did NOT deserve any of it! It was more glorious than I could have imagined! I was overwhelmed to tears, not only because of the extreme beauty, but because of my Heavenly Father’s kindness in bestowing me such a privilege in seeing so much of it. The sense of His presence overtook me.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? (Ps 8:3-4)
God does give us the desires of our heart sometimes, and sometimes it seems like He doesn’t. Psalm 37:4 says:
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Are we delighting in God in seeking our longings? At this point in my life, pleasing God has become my biggest desire. In this case, my LeConte request was God-centered for I had asked to enjoy God in His creation and proclaim His Name. I also resolutely determined not to complain if God didn’t grant me any or all of my request regarding LeConte.
Why did God say yes this time? Why didn’t He say yes to my other desires, like healing my husband from cancer? I believe I was asking a good thing and delighting in Him at the time.
I don’t know.
All I know is that this time He did and that His desires for me are always good (Jer 29:11). I will rest in that.
Do you have a dream? A God-honoring desire? Ask the Lord.
Maybe it isn’t impossible!
Just be sure not to complain if He doesn’t give it to you, but please tell others and boast in the Lord if He does!
But let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD. (Jer 9:24)
