Why We Should Trust God More
Trusting God is not easy or automatic. It’s going to take more than a casual desire to change the way you think and act. However, when you become aware of the wonderful benefits of placing your trust in God, you will be motivated to put in the effort, and subsequently find it to be well worth it.
Here are just a few reasons why you should learn to trust God more.
REASONS FOR TRUSTING GOD
1. The Lord commands it
The Lord tells us repeatedly to trust Him and not man nor ourselves.
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. (Ps 62:8, see also Jn 14:1)
If we want to be in right standing with God, we must learn to trust Him.
2. It pleases God
And it is impossible to please God without faith. (Heb 11:6 NLT)
3. There are many benefits in trusting God
- Prosperity (Pr 28:25, Jer 17:5-7)
- Deliverance
In that day the people will proclaim, “This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us!” (Is 25:9 NLT, see also Jer 39:18)
- We won’t be shamed nor disappointed
…No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame….(Ps 25:3)
“Those who hope in me will not be disappointed” (Is 49:23, see also Jer 2:36-37)
- Increased sense of security and protection
Trusting God removes our fear (a big reason for this scaredy-cat!) and gives us a greater sense of security.
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Ps 56:3-4, See also Ps 112:7, Ps 32:10)
- Increased sense of His presence
Trusting God gives us an increased awareness of His presence and therefore a greater sense of security. Repeatedly God tells us He is with us (Jos 1:9). If we are obeying Him (which includes trust), we will have a greater awareness of this wonderful truth.
- Strength
…In quietness and trust is your strength…. (Is 30:15)
- Guidance
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Pr 3:5-6 NKJV)
- Joy and hope
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Rom 15:13)
- Answered prayers
…He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him. (1 Chr 5:20)
4. Spiritual fruit
If we are trusting God and living for Him, our lives will produce much eternal fruit for God’s Kingdom and bring Him glory (See Jn 15, Gal 5:16-25).
5. Testimony to others
He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. (Ps 40:3-4 NLT)
6. Our way just doesn’t work (Pr 29:25)
Trusting in ourselves, others, or anything else will always let us down; it always falls short. The only One who can be reliable 100% of the time is God. He alone has an impeccable and pure character. He alone has unlimited resources, knowledge, wisdom, and power to carry out His perfect plan. He alone loves us with an unfathomable, selfless love.

My friend, without God’s help we will be unfulfilled and unhappy. Jesus came not only to give us eternal life, but a rich full one (Jn 10:10). That means you and I will have to believe and trust that God’s way is the best way. After thirty-eight years of walking with the Lord, I have found this to be true. That’s why I had to write, Trust God MORE.
